Plans we help you compare
There’s no one-size-fits-all plan. Here are the main ways to get covered in New Jersey, who each one tends to fit, and whether you may qualify for help paying for it.
What do these terms mean?
- ACA
- The Affordable Care Act — the federal law behind individual marketplace plans.
- On / Off-Exchange
- On-exchange plans are bought through GetCovered NJ (where subsidies apply); off-exchange plans are bought directly from the insurer.
- APTC
- Advance Premium Tax Credit — a subsidy that lowers your monthly premium based on income.
- CSR
- Cost-Sharing Reduction — a subsidy that lowers your deductibles, copays, and out-of-pocket costs when you use care.
- MV
- Minimum Value — a coverage standard or ACA regulation that mandates your insurance shares responsibility for 10 essential health benefits.
- MEC
- Minimum Essential Coverage — a more basic coverage standard than Minimum Value.
- Medically underwritten
- Pricing/eligibility depends on a health questionnaire, so these plans tend to suit healthier groups.
- MEWA
- Multiple Employer Welfare Arrangement — lets smaller employers or associations pool together for coverage.
- RBP
- Reference-Based Pricing — caps what a plan pays providers against a benchmark of Medicare to control costs.
This is general information, not a recommendation — eligibility and pricing depend on your situation. We’ll help you find the right fit.
